A Balancing Act

We all need balance in our lives between work, family, and our passions. Every day it feels like a constant struggle to fit all that we want into the 24 hours we’re given. If we work 12 hour days and neglect the special people in our lives they’re unhappy. If we spend all our time playing and pursuing fun, our pockets become empty and again there is unhappiness. There are times when it feels like you can’t win for losing.

In those moments of weakness are when balance becomes an important focus if we want to get centered. In my home I cook 90% of the meals for my family, and sometimes it can be a challenge between working a full day and then figuring out what to make each night, shopping, then preparing the food. However balance for me means blocking time and doing a simple meal plan for the week ahead, choosing simple recipes that don’t take too long to make, avoiding all the stress of figuring out what to prepare day to day. This leaves more stress free time that I can spend updating a spreadsheet, or playing with my kids.

Balance and planning go hand in hand. Blocking time to simply plan your day, or taking a beat to think about the most important things in your life then putting that plan in writing. You will find yourself spending time doing more things that bring you joy, and less time erratically jumping from one chaotic mess to another. I can’t claim to be perfect, in fact each day it's a struggle. But I wake up every day trying to get better at bringing more balance to my life, family, and team. I’m finding it's not the act of fitting everything you want in your life, it's more about not letting any one thing completely take over your life.
