I woke up this morning with origins on my mind. I’m a comic book fan, actually I used to own a comic shop, so as you can imagine I’m usually at the theater the first week for every big comic movie that comes out. The one thing that’s constant in comic films is the superhero origin story, and it made me curious about my team’s origins in the real estate business.
My origin starts at the Detroit Metro Airport where I worked as a skycap part-time. I was on a break hanging out with a couple guys I knew from work and we met up with a friend of a friend whom I had never met before. We discussed real estate and investing as he had recently bought a house to re-sell and this stranger told me that I needed to read Robert Kiyosaki’s book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad.” Something about the way he described a book that explained the value and mechanism of how investing worked in simple terms intrigued me and I resolved to get the book as soon as possible. I never saw the stranger again, but after devouring the “Rich Dad” series of books I knew I wanted to be in real estate and began my long winding journey to today.
Aside from a couple twists and turns I’ve been in real estate ever since that day. Now I want to hear your origin story. Take moment and in two to three sentences, describe what lit the fire inside you to want to spend your days looking at properties and writing offers, etc. You can add it to the comments and I will update this post with everyone’s tale.
In the words of comic legend Stan Lee “Excelsior!”
Peace.
