From the Book "Think & Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill - Posted 8/18/15
The story of practically every great fortune starts with the day when a creator of ideas and a seller of ideas got together and worked in harmony. Carnegie surrounded himself with men who could do all that he could not do. Men who created ideas, and men who put ideas into operation, and made himself and the others fabulously rich.
Who’s your Goal Mate?
Usually when a person shares an idea, they share it with ONE person first before they share it with others; rarely will anyone be the first to hear an idea amidst a group of people. Creators of ideas like to run their ideas past people that they believe they can trust to give them positive feedback or constructive criticism.
Unfortunately the creator will sometimes share their ideas with the wrong people; they’ll share their ideas with the type of people who will always give negative feedback regardless how great the idea sounds. You know… the type of people who will always see the PROBLEMS first before they understand the creator's vision. They won’t even ask any questions to get a better understanding of the idea if they’re not clear. Oftentimes these kind of people are referred to as Dream Killers.
Fortunately there are Goal Mates amongst us! These are the types of people who will listen carefully to your idea and offer you their honest feedback. Unlike the Dream Killers, they’re the ones that who won’t cut you off short while you're describing your vision. Without Goal Mates, our lives would be busy, boring, and basic!
In order to be happy we need Goal Mates in our lives, the more the better, however having only ONE will do! Humans are social creatures; we need to interact with others in order to be happy. Aside from the electric chair, solitary confinement is the “worst” punishment that prison officials will give to prisoners.
I often hear people say: “I don’t need any friends”. Yes you do. We all need friends. We all need someone that we can share our ideas with. We all need someone to honestly tell us that our idea sucks and that we should try again. We all need a Goal Mate!
