What’s your philosophy?

Change your Philosophy, Change Your Life is a concept that I first heard from Jim Rohn. In short, he's saying that whenever we’re not where we want to be in any area of life, it’s typically because of our philosophy in that area. After doing some deep thinking on this concept, I couldn’t help but agree with him.

I looked at myself and thought about what hasn’t worked out well and what was my philosophy on the subject. I also looked at my philosophy with the things that have worked out well, and I found that there are strong connections there.

We all have our philosophy on what we personally think is right or wrong, but where do our philosophies come from? Why do we think some things are so right and why do we think some things are so wrong? As I talk to various real estate professionals, I get to hear so many different philosophies on how to go about various things.

The most common philosophy that I hear is for Landlords to not tell their tenant that the home they’re renting is going to be sold. The thought behind this is that if the tenant finds out the home is going to be sold, they’ll move. Where did this philosophy come from? Do you agree with this line of thinking?

  • What is your philosophy for wanting to be on a team?

  • What is your philosophy on choosing real estate as a means to reach your goals?

  • What is your philosophy on working with buyers, sellers, and tenants?

  • What is your philosophy on delegating?

  • What is your philosophy on researching?

  • What is your philosophy on Team Building?

  • How quickly are you able to answer these questions?

  • What is your philosophy on how quickly you should be able to answer these questions?

How quickly you can answer or not answer the questions does matter. What also matters is that we put some deep thought into why we embrace our philosophies the way that we do. It’s not by coincidence that over 80% of us HATE what we do for a living. I think that most of us hate what we do because we are operating under someone else’s philosophy that we simply don't understand how we got there or why we're still doing it.

My philosophy in real estate is to focus on sellers and to build a functioning team as fast as possible. All of the Top Producers that I've studied have this in common, so not only is this my philosophy, it is also the philosophy of other successful real estate professionals.

Try to block some time today to analyze your philosophies; I think this is something that we should do often so that we can stay current with why we think the way that we think. We’re living in a world that has disconnected with the notion of taking time to relax and reflect on our motivations for the actions we take. If you don't pay attention to how you got there, how can you know where to go next?
