Passion, Passion, Passion!

This is something that I think about from time to time because we’re all passionate about something, but sadly we’re not all passionate about our job or career. It’s sad to know that some people will spend 6-12 hours per day on a job they don’t like...or they might even hate. It’s hard to enjoy life if you’re spending that much time doing something that you don’t like.

I recall my days working at the airport. I LOVED my job. In fact, I loved my job at the airport mopping floors more than I love my real estate career. I would display my love for my job at the airport by getting to work early, staying late, coming in on the weekends, taking pride in my work, and making it a point to have fun and tell jokes everyday. Man I miss that job….

One thing that I learned at the airport is just how much some people could hate their job. I couldn’t blame some of them because some of the jobs were not good ones. I hated my first job, but I did something about it. For some, they will hate their job and won’t do anything about it. They’ll show up day after day with no enthusiasm and no passion.

Working at the airport I learned that the people who lacked passion for their jobs usually…..

  • Arrived late

  • Missed days

  • Left work early

  • Complain all the time

  • Never had fun on the job

  • Did poor work

  • Tried to make things hard for everyone else

  • Started rumors and gossiped a lot

Regardless of what field we’re in, we’re going to encounter people that hate their job. The key to interacting with these people is to try to set an example by keeping your joy and passion in tact. Stay positive and be a motivator because sometimes that’s all people need….just a little motivation.

It’s also important to get around other passionate people in the same line of work that also enjoy what they do. These are going to be the ones that breathe life into the organization. They’ll help make sure that work doesn’t feel like work. I’m so thankful to be surrounded by so many passionate people because it really does make the job easier.

Make it a great day and if you don’t know what you’re passionate about, block some time to get it figured out quick! I don’t have a problem talking to people about finding their passion, so if you need someone to talk to about discovering your passion, I’m no expert, but I’m here to help!
