A Simple Hello
I can recall a sermon from years ago, the subject of the sermon was from the book of 2 Corinthians 9:7. At the end of the sermon, I realized the importance of “giving from the heart” and being happy about it regardless of the size of the gift.
Giving isn’t always about money and material things, as I write this, I’m thinking more about the gift of our attention, our time, our advice, and things of that nature. All of us have so much to give that we should never take the small things like a heartfelt and sincere “Hello, how are you doing” for granted.
I a firm believer that people cross our paths for a reason, but so often we are so busy going from one appointment to the next that we fail to notice the people around us, and therefore we miss a lot of opportunities to connect with others.
I think it would go a long way if we slowed it down a bit more often to find someone to give a heartfelt hello to. I think it’s really important to do so these days because a lot of people are so worried about their future.
They’re looking at what’s going on around the world and within our government, and sometimes what we have to offer with our words of encouragement might be just what they need to brighten their day.
I haven’t been practicing heartfelt hellos lately, in fact I’ve been doing the opposite. I’ve been intentionally avoiding eye contact with strangers lately or going out of my way to keep phone conversation extra brief because I’m trying to get back to the “things” that I have to do.
When I worked at the airport, I’d strike up conversations with just about everyone that I’d encounter, I met a lot of wonderful people this way, including my best friend Scott. So I know the concept can bring about great rewards, I just got to get back into the habit of doing it more often!
Giving Thanks…
I’m thankful that Scott had it in him to give a heartfelt “hello, how are you doing” right back to me some nearly 20 years ago. I’m also thankful that he recommended the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” to me, without it I may not have gotten into the real estate business. Thanks Scott!
