Listen Twice As Much As You Speak
One of the best things that we can do for someone is try our best to understand them. Taking the time to listen to someone with the intent to truly understand them is a rarity these days; typically we want to be the first to be understood.
I think it’s natural for us to want to say what’s on our mind first, but I think we’d improve the quality of what we have to say if we took time to understand others first.
In some cases, our own story might be that one that needs to be told and understood first, but I also think that most of the time this is not the case. Think about it, if we have goals that we’ve yet to reach, shouldn’t we listen a little closer to the people that we’ve attracted in our lives? I think so because we attract people into our lives for a reason.
I don’t think the reason that we attract people into our lives is so that we can tell them everything that we know. I think we attract people into our lives so that we can learn from them and allow them to help us on our journey.
Food for thought….
I’m guessing that 9 times out of 10 when we don’t like being around a certain person is because they talk too much and they never listen, whereas the people that we enjoy being with listen very well. This concept goes for our clients as well, how would you rate the listening skills of your favorite and least favorite clients?
Giving Thanks…
I want to thank Ashley for being a great listener, because even though she loves to talk, I can see that she loves to listen more than she loves to talk. I know this because when I kindly told her that she’s doing too much talking, she didn’t take it the wrong way. She just took the advice, applied it, and grew from it. Now the team is benefiting greatly from Ashley being such a great listener, thanks Ashley!!
Let’s make today a great day and and Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff.
