Do You Hear What I Hear?
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your listening skills and why?
1-3 = Poor Listening Skills
I often control conversations and forget to listen.
4-7 = Good Listening Skills
Average Skills, People enjoy talking to me.
8-10 = Great Listening Skills
Outstanding Listening Skills; I listen, I Comprehend well, and I respond accordingly most of the time.
Can you think of ways that our family, friends, and clients would benefit from us if we improved our listening skills by one or two points?
I consider myself to be a level 6 listener, so I have a lot of room for improvement. The biggest thing that I’m working on is blocking ample time for conversations that deserve more than just a few moments of my time.
For example, often times I’ll attempt to turn what should be a 30 minute heartfelt conversation into a 5-15 minute conversation, and there’s just no way that I can be listening good if I’m trying to hurry to bring the conversation to an end.
This is something that I’ve worked on for years and it gets better each day. My solution over 10 years ago was to bring better leaders and listeners onto the team. Now as I look around, we have some of the greatest listeners on the team which frees up time for me to hold longer and more heartfelt conversations.
Giving Thanks….
I want to thank Arvetta for being a great listener, Arvetta is one of the best listeners on the team. I know this to be true because she’ll ask the most questions. And although I tell her that I don’t have time for all of the questions, Arvetta’s questions will always apply to exactly what I covered with her, thanks for being a great listener Arvetta!!!
Let’s make today a great day and and Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff.
