It's Voting Season

Written by Matthew Woods

As Americans, we expect the voting process to work, but the fact is that the voting system is broken. Let me explain by sharing one example of how it's broken in Mahoning County.

We planned to include voting information in this video, you know things like; what day is election day, who's going to be on the ballot, etc....

Finding the election date and related information was as easy as Googling "election day 2021, Mahoning County" which brought up the State of Ohio website, no problem.

The problem that we ran into was finding out what's going to be on the ballot. The section on the site where that information is supposed to be doesn't have it. We assume that's because as of today (8/25/2021) the candidates haven't been certified.

We believe that there was some information out there on the internet as to what's going to be on the November ballot, so we did some more googling and came up with an article on the Salem News site which lists the candidates and issues for November.

It's great that the website's administrators provided information that the state's website didn't have, but the problem is that the information is limited; we must continue researching before we can get a better understanding of what we can expect in November.

Why does the process have to be so hard?

One reason that it may be hard to get clear information early on is because there's not enough everyday citizens coming together to do the research and to put it out there for the public to see.

Should we expect our local leaders, candidates, and the State to make the process as easy as possible for us to be informed as voters? Or should some of the work be performed by citizens?

Whatever you believe, if you want more for your community...your country, you have to understand that it starts with making the voting system easier for everyone.

If you have any information that would help make understanding the voting process easier, then we'd like for you to share that information with us, and if it's good information we'll add it to our website.

Thanks!
