Just Ice - Black History Month: Still Loading...

Black History Month: Still Loading...

The album Kool and Deadly was released by Just Ice in 1987. The album was selected as one of The Source’s Top 100 Rap Albums, yet a lot of people aren’t familiar with it. I am, I used to have this playing on my Sony Walkman during my walk to Hayes Middle School everyday.

Just Ice, aka Sir Vicious, is the first Reality Rapper (aka gangsta rapper) that I ever heard, he’s the first most explicit rapper that I ever heard, he’s the first rapper that I heard rap with a jamaican accent (Lyric Licking), and he’s definitely the first rapper that I ever seen with a gold grill.

The album was produced by KRS One, who’s also featured on a few songs, including the first song (Going Way Back), which is basically a Hip Hop History lesson, and (Moshitup) one of my favorites; that song has the classic line that rappers still use to this day: “Suicide, it’s a sucide, buda bye bye”.

KRS One was busy in 1987, because not only did he produce Kool and Deadly, he also released his debut album: Criminal Minded…another one of the Best Rap Albums ever.

The End.
