Moment in Black History: Water Works

The year was 1988; it was the 11th day of February. Thursday evening. I was a student at Hayes Jr. high, 8th grade. #NorthSide

Roger Troutman’s “I want to be your man” was #3 on the Billboard Charts and Salt and Peppa’s “Push it” was #36.

Other notable mentions from the Billboard Chart are: Michael Jackson (The way you make me feel), Whitney Houston (So emotional), Pebbles (Girlfriend), Terence Trent D’Arby (Wishing well), and Jody Watley (Some kind of lover).

The time was 8pm when The Cosby Show’s “Waterworks'' episode first aired. In this episode, the Huxtables had a plumbing problem that Cliff tried to fix on his own. He wasn’t doing a good job so his family stepped in to find a professional plumber that could get the job done. They hired a team of young contractors that consisted of both men and women.

My favorite scene in this episode happened when Theo thought that his dad was gone; he decided to impress the two cute female contractors by turning on some loud music and bringing them lunch, all while wearing nothing but a towel and a wife beater.

Cliff comes home, hears the music, runs upstairs (tripping halfway up the steps), runs into the bathroom, and that’s when Theo comes backing into the bathroom…giggin. He turns around, sees Cliff, starts to gig back out the door but realizes that he’s busted.

I call this scene: Face the music

This has been a #TeamWoods moment in Black History.
