I’m working on a new jerk sauce recipe because most sauces in general have so much sodium. Sweet Ray's BBQ sauce, for example, has 290mg of sodium in just two tablespoons. The recommended sodium intake for us humans is less than 2500mg per day.
My concoction consists of Canned Tomatoes, Onions, Garlic, all spice, cinnamon, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and a lil freshly squozed orange juice.
The can of tomatoes that I used has less than 70mg in the entire can, and the bun has 250mg of sodium, and the ground beef has about 100mg of sodium.
So my samich has about 500-600 mg of sodium….and that’s with me being mindful of the sodium count….and remember, less than 2500mg is the recommended intake.
And if you didn’t know, sodium holds water….so if you’re consuming a lot of sodium, expect to feel and look bloated. The way to get excess sodium out of your system is by eating foods high in potassium, and by drinking a gang of water.
But back to my samich, the taste is almost there, it just needs something to sweeten it up a bit, I’ll try adding a little honey next time. There will be next time, soon and very soon.
Oh, I almost forgot about my Jerk Fries... I didn't air fry them like I needed to...I was weak and in need of therapy...but the fries add another 250mg of sodium to the meal.
I called myself splitting the meal in half...half for yesterday and the other half for today...yeah right, I demolished both halves expeditiously.
