Every Saturday afternoon for over 20 years, Don Cornelius would bring the party to us by way of The Sooooooooulll Traiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin.
Many of us who were born in the 70’s often reminisce about watching our favorite Saturday morning cartoons while we ate our favorite cereal, and played with our favorite toys.
Saturday’s represented a lot of great things; another one of those great things was watching Soul Train with the family after the cartoons went off. The Soul Train brought everyone together, young and old.
How could it not? The show had the best music, the best dancers, and the best host giving the best interviews….the show even had the best commercials in between!
Watching Soul Train was an experience, I can’t recall anyone around me being mad or pissed off about something while watching Soul Train.
Watching Soul Train was a form of group therapy for many Black families; everyone would forget about their problems for a brief moment, and enjoy the music. Even to this day, the Soul Train line at a party will make you forget about your worries.
I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for Don Cornelius to make this magic happen every Saturday for over 20 years!
There was a time in my life where I was throwing parties every weekend, and my parties were the shit, everyone had a good time, but dealing with my people can be exhausting…so I called it quits.
Therefore I salute Don Cornelius because I know that he had to deal with a whole lot of negative energy and bad vibes in order for us to have a Funky Good Time every Saturday for over 20 years.
The End.
This has been a #TeamWoods moment in Black History.
