"A beautiful lawn doesn't happen by itself"
Article By Matthew Woods
One of the greatest frustrations for a lawn lover to experience is to get ready to mow their lawn only to find out that the mower won't start.
You prime the engine, you pull the string, you prime some more, you pull some more, you cuss, you pull some more, you sit down and catch your breath, you cuss, you pull some more, you prime some more, and you pull some more. Nothing!
You finally come to the realization that your mower just ain't gonna start. So now you have two problems.
How are you going to cut your grass?
Who's going to fix your lawn mower?
The first problem is the easiest to solve, the 2nd however, is a little more challenging. Of course you can find anyone to cut your grass....but it can be tough finding someone (in Youngstown) that will fix your mower....
The first time correctly
Within a few days
At a fair price
And provide good customer service
And accepts electronic payments
Accepting electronic payments isn't that big of an issue but it amazes me how many businesses don't.
You would think that with all the land in Youngstown that there would be several options for small engine repair, but this is clearly not the case; there are only a handful of repair shops in the City of Youngstown.
This is a big enough problem for someone responsible for cutting 1 or 2 lawns, but it's a bigger problem for someone with a landscaping business. I've been in situations where the repair shop would keep our equipment for close to SIX WEEKS! That's half of the summer! It's crazy!
I've spoken to so many people and companies in the same predicament, and I find that most people tolerate this issue. Don't get me wrong, I've turned this situation into a positive for us.
You see, because there's a shortage of repair shops, you have a lot of people that will give away their mowers, weedwhackers, etc because they don't want to deal with the headache of trying to get it fixed. They'll simply go out and buy a new mower.
I'll gladly accept these mowers, but I'll still run into the same problem with having to get it fixed, but in cases like this it's not a big deal since I received the item for free...so it's not a big problem if I have to wait a few weeks for the item to be repaired.
It would be nice to see more young people taking small engine repair classes and starting up businesses. I strongly believe that if 5 small engine repair companies were to open up on the same side of town on the same day, there would be enough business coming in for all five!
